With only 27 inhabitants, Mandø has a rhythm all its own that shapes the lives of its residents. Although the nearest village, Vester Vedsted, is only 11 kilometers away, the mental distance is enormous for the friendly and proud islanders. Mandø is an island that offers its visitors a variety of opportunities to experience the culture, tradition, history and nature up close.

One of the main attractions of the island is Mandø Mill, the landmark of the island. It greets arriving visitors at the very first glance over the dike. Colored poles mark numerous routes where you can experience nature and bird life up close. And sheep graze on the dikes, which gives an image of peace and relaxation. The sandbank Koresand southwest of the island is also worth a visit. Here there is a possibility to find amber, go swimming in the North Sea and watch seals.

The history of the island is closely linked to the whims of nature. Storm surges destroyed the first two churches on the island in the 16. and 17th century. Based on this experience, the current whitewashed church was built in 1639 on the highest point of the island. The village is now protected by a dike so that the islanders can withstand the destructive forces of the elements without fear for their own lives and those of their animals.

After a day full of impressions and experiences, the restaurants tempt you with variations of typical Danish cuisine, inspired by the raw produce of the surroundings. Visitors have the opportunity to take home a little piece of Mandø or taste the local specialties on site.

For those who want to stay longer, the island offers accommodation in all price ranges and for all tastes. There is room here for everyone who longs for silence and relaxation in nature – all year round. Whether for yourself, your family and friends, or even your horse, everyone is welcome on Mandø.
