Tips for your holiday with a dog in Denmark

A trip to a holiday home on the Danish coast is a wonderful experience for the whole family – including the family dog. On the beach the dog can get water under their paws and romp around on the water or in the dunes.

From October 1st to March 31st, the dog has to roam freely on the beach. In summer, however, the dog must be kept on a leash, both for the benefit of bathers and to protect wildlife. Please note that special rules may apply to individual beaches.

However, many of the popular holiday homes are not only located on the coasts, but also in forests and large moors. Denmark has many dog forests, dog parks and open-air areas where dogs are welcome and can often be viewed off-leash all year round.

Dog-friendly areas can be highlighted in Blokhus Hundeskov, Bøtø Hundeskov by Marielyst and Den Tilandandede Church Hundeskov in Skagen. In one of Denmark’s most popular holiday areas, Blåvand, is Oksby Klitplantage, where you will find a beautiful, fenced-in dog forest. If the whole family goes for a walk in Blåvand ZOO, the dog is also welcome here.

The above is just a small selection of dog areas, and at www.hundeskove.dk you can get the full overview of the Danish dog forests. Here you can also download an app to take part in your vacation so that you can find the nearby dog forests in exactly the area you have chosen for your vacation home.
